End of the Year Progress

We are now winding down with the end of the school year. The students are getting restless, and so am I! Many of the teachers have stopped giving homework, so when the students come, we spend a lot of time reviewing. It takes the pressure off the students to get their work done, and makes for a relaxing time spent with each one.
There are still a few students that come with homework, and this week, a student that has been coming to us since we opened showed great maturity in doing his homework. He is now in second grade; I’ve blogged about him earlier this year, when he was having difficulty in comprehension. He has improved in this area, which is great, but when impressed me yesterday was his ability to do math word problems on his own. Most students, even students in 5th and 6th grade find themselves often “getting stuck” on word problems. Yesterday, this student whizzed through them without any help from me. It is always so gratifying to see student’s progress to independence!
In another note, two Saturdays ago, we had our Super Delicious Desserts fundraiser. It was a great time full of tasty treats and sharing a little about what’s been happening at LIST. A couple LIST families even showed up, which gave our donors a chance to meet and interact with the students as well as the parents. Even better, we even raised some money! Enough to cover a month’s rent, which for a grass-roots organization like our own, makes a big difference. A big “thank you” to all who came and, or for those who donated money to us. Without you, we could not keep our doors open. To see pictures of this great event, click here!
