Report cards went home the other day, and I am proud to say that one of our students got the best grades in her class! This is her second year coming to us, and her teacher last year noticed an immediate difference when she started attending LIST in her academics and in her attitude. That change has continued into this year, and now she is at the top of her class! We are so proud of this student and excited to be able to work with her each week!
I have also noticed improvement in a first grade boy that has fallen behind in reading (I’ve blogged about him several times). Last week, I had the opportunity to speak with his mother; she is very frustrated with the school because they are insisting he should be put in second grade next year (even though he cannot read) with the intent of putting him in special education classes. I was able to give her my opinion (that he is capable, and should not be put forward; he needs one more year to learn to read). Anyway, I was glad to have the conversation with her, and I have been very happy to notice the improvements he is making. He can now, with help, read a simple book, whereas, before, he could not sound out a three letter word. He is still very far behind, but he is making progress and I am encouraged to see his progress.
Next week, we will be on Spring Break, but I will continue my blogging once we return.
