One of the things I have enjoyed most about opening LIST, besides working with the students, is the community that has been building around us. I grew up in a very close community and it is one of the things that I can look back on that has had a positive influence on my life. At LIST, we are hoping to develop this community. Slowly but surely, it has started to develop. I’ve noticed this especially within the students. They often comment to me how they saw so-and-so on the yard or out and about. The impact this can have is awesome because it gives these students a feeling of belonging to something; something that not everyone can be involved in (of course only due to our need for volunteers. We would take all students if we could). My hope is that this community can expand to the parents and that from LIST, a close knit group of people will form.
Other than that, the week went well – the students are continuing to progress and their personalities continue to delight us. The students are also very excited for our March art class on the 26th – this will be the long awaited puppets class we have been teasing them with. It should be a great time for all!
