On Saturday, we had our third LIST Art Class. This was the long awaited Puppet Day, and the kids were really excited. Our volunteer arranged for two of her friends to come, one bearing a puppet. Kyle first talked about how you show emotions using your hands, pretending that they are in a puppet. By opening your hand, you are showing happiness, by having a closed hand, and looking around, you are showing confusion.
After Kyle gave an introduction to puppets, he showed his puppet and then each student was able to make their own paper bag puppet. The materials they brought allowed the students to make the puppets feathery, and even furry; many of the students made monsters with several eyes, one (the only girl) made a bunny.
After they had finished creating their puppets, each student had the chance to use their puppet to speak with Kyle’s puppet – the students had such a great time! Tori, the volunteer who arranges the art classes, is a bit worried about what she can do next to top the puppet class!
