Let's Party!

This week was a bit hectic; our Second Annual “Jazz in the Afternoon” is this Sunday and we decided to move the event from a hotel to our backyard, making it a garden party. With this change comes a lot more work! It is going to be a great event with Connie Sheu playing during registration and Route 101 as the headliner. We’ll have great food, a silent auction and we’ll be sharing about the work we are doing and the programs we have planned for the summer.

Also this week, we were able to recruit a new volunteer (a sister of a current volunteer). It’s is great news because, unfortunately one of our volunteers was unable to rejoin us after our spring break. This new volunteer will be able to step in where the other left off!

One of our students had a great breakthrough this week as well. She has been working on learning her multiplication tables and she worked hard over the break at this task. The multiplication cards we use have two sides, the white side and the red side. The white side is slightly easier then the red, so she has a goal for each side. Her goal for the white side was to answer 70 flashcards in 3 minutes. This week, she completely shattered her goal, answering all 85 cards in less then 3 minutes! I really noticed her improvement with certain problems she has been struggling with previously. The work this student and her mom did over the break really paid off! Since she was able to answer all 85 cards on the white side she will now only work on the red side. Her goal for the red side is to answer 60 cards in 3 minutes.

As mentioned, we our hosting our Second Annual “Jazz in the Afternoon” on Sunday, and if you are available, come and check it out! Tickets are $20 advance purchase and $40 at the door. For more information, and to buy tickets, go to www.listhelps.org.
