Hello Everyone!
It has been far too long since I sat down and blogged about what has been going on at LIST! We had a fantastic summer program where the students participated in science projects and completed many review activities to keep their minds alert over the summer break. Check out the pictures and videos of our experiments by going to our Facebook page: click here!
Of course, the beginning of the year brings many adjustments for our students. Each new year means a new teacher, possibly a new schedule, their classroom may be in a different area of the school grounds, and also new classmates. In addition to all of this, many of our students changed schools, either graduating to junior high, or changing to a charter school. All of this can be very frightening, but our students seem to have adjusted very well, and now that the school year is a month old, the students seem well-adjusted to their new surroundings.
At our last board meeting, our board of director’s was talking about how important it is for our donors to see and hear from our students – I can speak/write about how amazing they are, and the work we are able to do with them, but it means more when you hear it from the students themselves, so I am starting a video blog called, “In Their Own Words”. In this series, the students will be asked why they like coming to LIST and/or how it is has helped them. The videos are very rough, for all the video editors out there, but the message is a good one. This first video installment is an interview with Irma, a student who came to us with a negative attitude and poor grades. . .click here to see the video.
Finally, as some of you may have read or heard, we had to cancel our Delicious Desserts Tea Party due to some physical issues I have been experiencing. Just a quick update, I still do not have a diagnosis, but I am working with my doctors to find the cause of the pain I have been experiencing and hope to be back to good health soon. Thank you for your emails of concern.
