As I mentioned last week, this has been a time of transition for our students with new teachers, classes, and some of our students started attending new schools. One student, Lorraine, started attending a charter school in the area for grades 6-8. So far, I have been very impressed by the homework she brings and the activities she has mentioned they are doing in all kinds of classes – she consistently has art homework, and each class seems to include some sort of physical lesson in the units they are studying to help the students learn more easily, not to mention making the lessons more fun. Anyway, this week, she brought the book she recently read for her literature class so that I could borrow it. The book, “The Cay” is a short read, but I can see why she was so excited about it, wanting to share it with others. I have to say, it cracked me up that I am now getting reading suggestions from a sixth grader! I will be so caught up on all my sixth grade reading by the end of the year as she is already planning on lending me the next book.
Anyway, this week’s, “In Their Own Words” student interview is with Lorraine – enjoy! Click here to listen to the interview. Again, I must apologize with the video quality, clearly I am an amateur!
