Catching Up!
It is a short week at LIST as tomorrow is a furlough day in the district– that means only 3 days of LIST. We had a student return for a session this week, and it was great to see her again. Her sister comes to LIST, but she was having trouble in math, she does not understand how her teacher is explaining it, so she came to LIST to get some help taking her sister’s appointment. This student started attending LIST 3 years ago when she was in fifth grade. When she first started attending, she was getting C’s and D’s in school. After a year with us, she raised her grades to B’s and C’s and her teacher commented on how improved her attitude was as well. After her second year here, she was at the top of her class! She is now in junior high, and has a different schedule, so it is not as easy for her to come to LIST. It was a lot of fun catching up with her; I found out she has made lots of new friends and “everyone knows her at school”, and that besides math, she is doing well in her classes. Within a few minutes of working on ratios, she got the concept down, so we then moved on to positive and negative integers. This was a bit tricky, but she had begun to understand the concepts when she left. I have a feeling she will continue to swap in to get help with math as the year goes on. It was great seeing and working with her again!
