This past Saturday, we had our second LIST Art Class! The students were exposed to improv acting this time. One student really got into it and it was neat to see him use his imagination. The other students were very shy, but I am so glad they were exposed to the idea of acting and what is involved in improv. Check out the pictures by clicking here!

Looking back on my blogs, I can’t believe I have not shared the great news about one of our students. When I came back from my maternity leave, I found out that one of our students had been struggling to the point where she was potentially going to be retained. This makes me sad for every student, but especially this one. She has been with us since our first year of opening. That year, she was in second grade and had a very nurturing teacher. After she started coming to us, her grades improved greatly, and her teacher was very happy with her progress. Last year, her third grade teacher was much less nurturing, and for a shy girl like this student, she was scared at times of her teacher. Her grades dropped a little, and she became quite shy. She made it through the year, however, and this year she again has a very nurturing teacher. Unfortunately, however, her grades slipped because she was not spending time learning her multiplication tables. With the decline in her math abilities, her confidence began to decline, and the rest of her grades also started declining. Much of this happened while I was on maternity leave. When I came back and found out about what was going on, I was able to teach her some skills to cope with her lack of knowledge in multiplication while helping her to learn her multiplication facts, and I began to build her confidence again. I am proud to say, that with hard work from this student, her last report card showed improvement in her grades, and she is no longer a candidate for retention. I also noticed that her confidence has once again risen – we are so proud of this student, way to go!
