I've been absent!

I’ve been absent in my blogging the past 3 or 4 weeks, but I have a good excuse! My husband and I are proud to announce the adoption of our baby daughter – Fenna Alexis Vellenga. She was born October 28, and we brought her home on October 30. She is a bundle of joy and we are so excited to have our lives changed with the addition of this little girl.
What does this mean for LIST you may be wondering? We have closed for my maternity leave until January. While this ends up being 8 weeks, with all the holidays and time we would be closed anyway, it works out to only 5 weeks that the kids cannot come for tutoring. In January, we’ll have a new volunteer in Fenna – although, she may not be too helpful at this point! 
There were two events, however, that happened just before and after Fenna came home with us, and I wanted to fill you in on those. First, the Masquerade Social Networking with a Purpose took place on October 28. It was a great event – Kay ‘n Dave’s has a great patio area, and we found ourselves sitting around a great fireplace. We also had people not in our party buy opportunity drawing tickets! With donations, the sale of our calendars, and the proceeds from the opportunity drawing, we made nearly $500! Thank you so much to Eskapade Prodcutions! Check out their Facebook page and see the pictures, click here!
On Halloween, we had a group from a local church come and throw a Halloween party for the students! I did not attend as we had just brought Fenna home the night before, but from all reports, and the pictures, everyone had a great time, (including the volunteers!) They planned a great afternoon of science experiments, math games and arts and crafts. I was also able to share the news of our daughter through a letter to the families announcing her arrival. My next blog will be in January, so until then, have a wonderful holiday season!
