It was a big week for the student's at LIST because they all started the state standardized testing. The main school that we draw our students from has seen a decline in test scores, so the pressure is on the students and the teachers. Many of the students commented on how they were nervous about the test. Of course, we encourage them to do their best, get lots of rest and eat a good breakfast each day to make sure they can concentrate during the test. One nice benefit for the students is that the teachers do not send as much homework home during testing, so they can at least relax at home.
In other news, one of our students was awarded a prize for a poem and artwork she wrote about water; an assignment given during the school's Earth Day celebrations at her school. I am attaching pictures of the artwork and a close up of the poem. We are very proud of this third grade student for her accomplishments!
Also, we are very excited because next week, we will complete over 1000 tutoring sessions for this school year! Again, this could not be done without the help of our volunteers and those that support us financially. LIST continues to be a great success in the community and I am so thankful for your support!
Finally, we have another pancake breakfast scheduled for May 22, from 9-11. If you are in the area, drop by and have a delicious meal - all the proceeds will benefit LIST!
