The year seems to be winding down. Teachers are sending less and less homework and the students and teachers are starting to get antsy for the end of the year. As I reflect on the past school year, I recognize some highs and some lows. Of course, the times when teachers and parents related how their student has improved by coming to LIST are highlights. There are also the many awards our students were given as well. We lad several successful fundraisers, and “found our groove” when it comes to raising money with the smaller parties and pancake breakfasts. There were also tough times, mainly having to do with the frustrations of unsupportive parents. These times were not only frustrating, but very saddening as well; these students are not being supported by their families, and they are falling through the educational cracks, but without the family support, our hands were tied. There are also programs we were hoping to implement that we never fully able to implement; programs such as science clubs, art, music and acting classes. I am slowly learning to take one day/project at a time, and some day, we will offer all these programs and more. Of course, I cannot end this retrospective of the year without mentioning the HUGE goal we accomplished by completing over 1000 tutoring sessions! Overall, it has been another fantastic year where we have seen our impact increase in our community and learned a lot ourselves along the way!
On another note, we are having our second pancake breakfast this Saturday! It will be held at our house, 1239 N. Wecxham Way, Inglewood. We hope to see you there – come out for blueberry, chocolate chip or plain pancakes. Three dollars for those 12 and under and four dollars for those of us over twelve! See you then!
