I was subbing in a class this week where the teacher has listed the students of the month starting in September. As I looked a the list, I realized that this is the sixth month of school, and the year is nearly over! There is still a lot to come, including spring break, and state standardized testing, but the year end will soon be upon us.
This week, I was privileged to witness a change in one of the students attending LIST. This student, a fourth grade girl, has been attending LIST since the beginning of the year. She is s very smart girl, a good reader, and she also does well in math. She is a very shy girl, she often does not even say hello when someone speaks to her. The past couple weeks, however, I have noticed that she is much more open when she comes. We always try and check in with each student to see how their day was; I usually ask what the best and worst parts were. This student often had little or nothing to say and when she would talk, it would be after she had been there for a while and become comfortable. This week, she seemed to immediately open up and seemed to really enjoy her time with us. I hope that she is now feeling more comfortable at LIST and that we will continue to see a new side of her, getting to know her even better.
Finally, while I know I probably tend to sound like a broken record, just a reminder, Delicious Desserts is April 10. We’ll have a great sampling of desserts to taste as well as share what LIST is doing and how you can be involved. For more information, go to www.listhelpr.org or email kvellenga@listhelps.org. We hope to see you there!
