Let summer come!

This week, we started the registration process for our summer sessions. In doing this, we have notified the teachers at the local elementary school, placed flyers in the office of the school and flyers here at LIST. Already, even with the short week, we have students signing up; one parent came for information for our summer sessions and singed her son up for tutoring for the rest of the year! (He’s sitting here now working with a volunteer). We will be open for tutoring for the next two weeks, as well as for registration for the summer session, and then we will be closed until we open again on July 13th.

Other than that, things are slowing down a bit because it is the end of the school year, new enrollment has definitely gone down. The pace here at LIST, is definitely starting to relax; many students are coming with no homework. When this happens, we spend the time in review and/or playing educational games. After the pressure of standardized testing, it is good to see the students being able to relax.

On a different note, the business next door had been closed recently for a few weeks. It always surprises me to see how much business they have (they sell purified water at very affordable rates). It just opened again this week, and now, instead of being like a ghost town in our little business area, foot traffic has definitely picked up. I hope they are able to stay open again, as they bring us a lot of exposure; and it is nice to see many people I know walking by to purchase their water!
