This week was an amazing week at LIST! We had two new volunteers and we were able to service several new students! The two new volunteers will be coming Tuesday and Thursday, thus allowing us to service 12 students on those days instead of 4! I have also been able to move through the waiting list!
I also saw great improvements in one of the students I am working with. A third grade student whom I have mentioned in the past, made great strides this week in learning her multiplication tables. I had set a goal of being able to tell me the answer to 50 flash cards in 3 minutes. This week, she broke that goal and really seems to be learning those pesky multiplication tables!
I also saw progress with a second grade student I have mentioned often. He came in knowing most of the sounds, but not all the spellings, and he could not blend a three letter word like hat. This week I was working with him, and he is now reading words such as sunlight! He is also starting to recognize certain letter combinations such as “gr”, “al”, and “be”. This recognition makes it much easier in attacking words when sounding them out. It is so fulfilling to see our hard work paying off!
