Busy Bee

To start with, I need to give a big shout out to a few people for their work on last week’s Laugh WITH Kids . . . Not AT Them. Thanks to Abby Chelian for organizing the whole event! Thanks also to Jenny Chan for helping to decorate, Suhas Chelian for taking pictures and Gary Chan for videoing the whole event. Also, thanks to my husband for helping out with it all. The event was a lot of fun, good exposure, and we made some money! If you would like to see pictures, or a video of the opening song that was performed (while dancing around myself!) go to www.listhelps.org and click on the Event Photos tab. There you will find the photo album of the event as well as a link to the video.
This was a busy week at LIST for many reasons. First, I spent the week working on a grant proposal that is due by next week Tuesday. I was able to complete it and send it off this week! Now the wait begins. I also spent the week working on contacting businesses in the area requesting that they advertise their company at The Second Annual “Jazz in the Afternoon” event coming April 26. The letters were sent out yesterday, so once again, the wait begins.
Some really exciting news is that we will have several volunteers starting this coming week! All total, we should have 3-4 volunteers! We also have a parent that is willing to volunteer while her student is being tutored – this adds one additional student to our schedule and is a BIG help! Thanks to that Mom. I am hoping, that by the end of next week, or the beginning of the following week, we will have filtered through the waiting list and have the students scheduled and attending LIST! Our capacity should double or triple with the addition of these new volunteers!
Finally, this week was also an exciting week for the second grad students that attend LIST – they went on a field trip on Friday! Each day, as the students arrived, I could tell their excitement was growing as the day approached. They went to the Natural History Museum and I can’t wait to hear a report about their trip. It was fun to see their excitement and to remember how exciting field trips can be. As a teacher, leading up to the trip, I always hoped that the students would remember to bring their lunches, and to get to school well on time. Being on this side of the trip, as an outside observer, I see I had no reason to worry!
