This past Saturday, we had our “Fun Class” for the month. This month’s “Fun Class” was centered around art. When the students first came, I asked them what tools they thought about when they thought of art. They all mentioned paper, paint and paint brushed. I then told them we would be doing two different kinds of art where we would not use all of the usual tools they thought mentioned.
Our first tool of art was to use potatoes to make art. The students cut out shapes from slices of potatoes, dipped those cut outs into tempura paint and then pressed them on to paper. The students really enjoyed this, but it became a challenge to use as it was sometimes difficult to cut out curved shapes.
Our second from of art completely went against all the norms they had mentioned – we used sidewalk chalk on the sidewalk in front of LIST. The students really enjoyed this; their scope of art definitely changed as the size of their art grew and they felt a tremendous freedom to draw whatever they wanted. It was fun to see them take to this different kind of art so quickly. To see pictures of our art class click here!
We are also excited because we have our upcoming Delicious Desserts Tea Party on March 23, read below for more details. To purchase tickets, email kvellenga@listhelps.org.
LIST's Delicious Desserts Tea Party
Skip the scones and cucumber sandwiches, bring on the dessert!
Please join us for our first Delicious Desserts Tea Party! We have so much to share with you about what has been happening at LIST! Some of our students will be sharing why they enjoy coming to LIST and how it has benefited them. You will have the chance to see where the learning fun happens as the event will be held at our site. You will also have the chance to sample different kinds of tea, and great desserts! Our students will participate in our first ever Chef's School the morning of the event where they will create some of the desserts for the event, and you will have the chance to taste their culinary art! All proceeds will benefit our tutoring and extra-curricular programs.

Like to bake?
Part of the reason our Delicious Desserts events have been a success in the past is due not only to our wonderful donors who attend the event, but also because many of our donors donate their time and talent by making the desserts we will be enjoying. If you like to bake and would like to donate a dessert to this event, please email me at kvellenga@listhelps.org.
Also, if you would like to participate in our Chef's School by volunteering the morning of the event, please email me at kvellenga@listhelps.org.
