This week, we started our sign-ups for our summer program as well as our school year program for next year! Writing now, we only have three more weeks until we close until August! It is amazing how time flies. I have three more students to sign up for next year, but it looks like all students will be returning. This means, we will start our waiting list for next year already. We will have to redouble our efforts in August and September to see if we can find more volunteers; we usually have one or two spots available at the beginning of the year but this does not seem to be the case for the upcoming school year.
During our summer program, the students will come twice a week, and we will perform one experiment on the first day and then do review on the second – the review will probably include some sort of games as well, after all, it is summer! The science experiments have ranged from Mentos in Diet Coke, to making goo. I am toying with the idea of making bubbles, one as large as a hula-hoop! I need to do more research first to see how practical this would be. I have seen it done while watching Sesame Street with my daughter, but their budget is probably much greater than ours!
