This week, I thought I would share a few statistics about our week at LIST to give you an idea of the work we are doing. This week, we completed 19 sessions of tutoring. Since our beginning, we have completed 71 sessions! (By the end of next week, if all scheduled students attend, we will be close to completing our 100th session!) This week, nine students were served (this may seem like a low number compared to the number of sessions for the week, however, students come once, twice or even three times a week). An interesting statistic about those nine students is that six of the nine students, were boys and of course the rest were girls; I am not sure why this is. We have two first graders, one second grader, two third graders, and three fourth graders and the last student is a fifth grader. With the volunteers we had come this week, we were able to tutor an additional six students from our regular schedule!
The personalities of the students that come are as varied as their need for help. Some come, and at first are very shy. Others come and jump right in without skipping a beat. Some come and only need their homework looked over after they have completed it, others need more intensive help due to gaps in their learning. Each student shows amazing potential and it is awesome to work with them each day.
Looking toward next week, with the volunteers we have scheduled, we only have one - two available sessions. This makes for tight scheduling and it makes it difficult to sign up new students, so if you are interested in volunteering, please contact me, Kim Vellenga, at kvellenga@listhelps.org, or go to www.listhelps.org for more information.
Some news for the week – we were able to have our sign hung, so not only do we have a sandwich sign, we now have a banner over our windows! If you would like to see pictures, please go to www.listhelps.org and click on the photo tab.
